


About the designer, Francine Van der Biest
Since 1985, Francine Van der Biest has been working as a freelance textile designer. For local and international brands, she has developed creative concepts in all application fields like carpets, bath and table linen, fabrics for interior use... She won the Design for Europe competition at the Interieur Design Biennial in 1992 and the Henry van de Velde for Best Product in 1997. The list is still long but to speak about her talent is being connected to her world of geometric patterns and archetypal figures. At thewhitehotel, she has chosen to show both a painting –reminding us that she started her career as a fine artist– with her carpet with a cross centered in the subtle textile square. The two elements which are far from the decorative dimension are in fact talking about the close relationship between arts and crafts. It reveals the relevance of the immaterial language hidden behind the canvas and the rug, this one playing with space, materials in response to a deep mystical meaning.
